Mansionair – Hold Me Down (feat. Revier)
Mansionair is a production duo who abjure genre by taking their music in what ever direction they see fit. Moving between a raw compound of Flume, The XX and James Blake, début single ‘Hold Me Down’ makes the outfit’s own sound quite challenging to discern. The sublime vocals are handled by Sydney newcomer Jack Froggat (Revier). Adjusting between an angelic falsetto and orthodox pitch-shifted lyrics, the track flaunts a strong understanding of a modern sound.
While the shining factor here is the lead vocal, the adventurous arrangement and minimal production lay ground work for a refined product. Having amassed over 130k listens on Soundcloud since the release at the end of 2013, it seems the single is finding its way around the place. Reigning in at 5:57, radio play may prove slightly difficult – I hope I am wrong in this regard.
In an age where most emerging producers have had access to a capable studio, in the form of a laptop or home PC, ab incunabulis, ‘Hold Me Down’ is an example of the type of production we can come to expect. The genius lies within the use of modern tools to craft a lasting and full piece; Mansionaire appear to have hit the nail on the head this time, lets see where it goes from here.
