The Crooked Fiddle Band – Vanishing Shapes (Ribongia Remix)
So this track has managed something fairly unusual, that of being stuck in my head, despite being an instrumental. Instrumental earworms are a rare breed. It’s the latest release from Sydney beat alchemist Ribongia, a remix of a tune by freaky folksters The Crooked Fiddle Band, from their just released Moving Pieces Of the Sea (bottom). Shape shifting layers of melody and harmony weave through the whole arrangement, underpinned by a nicely constructed beat, its a tasty slice of forward thinking Beats, with a really nice blend of live and synthesized instrumentation. Ribongia has been on a tear of late, with an impressive live show, and swathes of excellent releases, including the recently released Remixes (below). He’s not feeling nished as yet either, apparently he has almost 3 more albums worth of material ready to go, as Ribongia, and his side project Unkle Berry (a bit more spacious and downbeat flavours), including some lush Afro infused goodness, which he previewed on FBi’s best Beats show Future Face. here.
