Janelle Monae – Prime Time
Janelle Monae has just released the “emotion picture” for her song ‘Prime Time’ which featured Miguel. Having been released on her highly anticipated sophomore album The Electric Lady, it was accepted by fans quite well and gained some airplay around the place. Featuring alongside Monae’s collaboration’s with legends such as Prince, Solange and Erykah Badu, it certainly had a lot to live up to and fans believe that it’s reached expectations.
The video in the words of Janelle is “a love story based on the early adventures of Cindi Mayweather (Janelle Monáe) and her first love Joey Vice (Miguel.) The Emotion Picture gives a glimpse at Cindi’s humble beginnings as a “cyber-server” at the Electric Sheep nightclub, a syn bar serving high-class “show droids” to the rich and lonely in a dangerous section of Metropolis known as Slop City. Incidentally, the innovative cybersoul music played at the club directly impacted Cindi, and she began singing and performing her own innovative compositions a short time after quitting this assignment. In addition, Cindi became determined to change the public perception of what an electric lady could be, dream and aspire to after working in the dismal conditions at the club.”
Some of you may be a little confused by the video and the above concept written by Monae, so I’ll give you a quick rundown. Janelle Monae writes concept albums based on her android alter-ego Cindi Mayweather and the struggles she faces in Metropolis, Wondaland. As a female, black alpha platinum android, she is the subject of much criticism throughout Wondaland and uses her music to spread her message of equality. All of Cindi’s music is now kept top secret as it caused mass rebellions around the Wondaland area.
