Leif Vollebekk, Don’t Go To Klavsvik (video)
Canadian Leif Vollebekk has not made it into the Australian scene yet but he has been making a dent in the Canadian and European scene. Leif sings in French and English with a voice that is rich and passionate, you’re sure to enjoy it where ever you are from. The first time we heard him it felt like we were listening to Jeff Buckley’s little brother who was into Devendra Banhart and Damien Rice. The sensitive type without being too depressive.
Signed to Nevado Records, an alternative pop, folk label, Leif fits in well with his colleagues. His music is warm with rich instrumentation. The music takes its time, gives you time to reflect but is sparse enough to let his vocals to come to the forefront. “Don’t go to Klavsvik’ in particular features strings, piano and harmonica. So this is no simple song. The combination is lush and you can’t help but want more.
Leif is currently on tour but no Australia dates as yet. Really looking forward to more releases over the year. He is currently recording his next album with Howard Bilerman (Arcade Fire, Godspeed).
